Letter

February 6th, 2014

Dear Future Students,

I'm writing this letter in order to give you some pieces of advices which you have to keep in mind when you'll come to this Workshop.

I really enjoy every activity I did; at the beginning was frustrated because I couldn't understand non words that they said but day after day I improved my listening skill.... just keep calm (calm down) and listen; be polite when you'll ask for repetition.

Warm clothes is very important, I brought a lot, but I didn't  wear all of them, so be sure bringing just what you need... so you will have more available space in you suitcase to put your souvenirs.

Food is delicious, so u are not going to have problem with that, just be available to try new things, such as snails.

Enjoy every moment, bring your camera because there're lots of beautiful places you will want to save to remind.

Sincerely

Antonio

February 3rd... Bunnies, the sensation :/

Classes were excellent!!! The oral activity was incredible, it made me the chance to tell some thoughts that I had, and it felt really really good ;)

We received the visit of a group from the Enrollment Area, and they spoke about the all requirements needed to apply to study here in the US, according to my point of view it was great, but some students didn't understand anything (as always) and they didn't make any effort as well...

After lunch we went to a museum. It is called Chicago History Museum. The Chicago History Museum cares for, showcases, and interprets millions of authentic pieces of Chicago and U.S. history. The ability to illuminate the past is a reminder of what really happened once upon a time, sheds light on the present, and compellingly informs the future.

I saw a Jazz Room which includes a huge picture from The Play Boy Club. In that picture you can see lots of men and a girl wearing a rabbit custom (she is called Play Boy Bunny). I think that this girl is the most important in the picture, because the club featured Play Boy Bunnies in setting of sophisticated sexual liberation. The picture was captured spontaneously. It helped to open minds, remind that was a critical period of time, I mean, an era full of controversies about that kind expressions. If I could change the title of this picture I'll call it "Bunnies, the Sensation"!

Here some pictures...

A beautiful Room:

This room was made of wood, concrete and glass. It has a Gregorian Style architecture. It's a big room. It's an elegant space for receptions, such as weddings. It has LCD projectors and screens descent from the ceiling. The sound system ensure optimal sound quality. I think it was used as a ball room in order to have receptions or parties.

That's all folk ;)

January 31st... A beautiful day!!!

I'm really happy... after the events lived with all the students some days ago... I'M SO HAPPY, I can't tell you the reason why but if it's going well YOU ARE GOING to be the firsts to know about it ;)

Today classes run very good (It could be because some students didn't came - the same students that complain all the time - you know who they are -  and you know what I mean ;)

María directed the class very good, and the activities were so funny WE TALKED ABOUT THE PAST... I felt really well during this day.

When  I was on my way home I recorded the VOCAL GROUP ABOVE.. It's really awesome!!!
I want to sing like them ;).. well I play the piano almost good.. LOL

Enjoy!

Bilingual Methods

      1. The Prism Model: This is a Model for bilingual learners.
a.      What does it represent? This model represents a holistic (integrated, complete) way to learn.
b.  What does it illustrate? This model illustrates each four dimensions of this model: linguistic, academic, cognitive and sociocultural dimension. It is said, students can’t learn if these dimensions are not interrelated.

C.1 It includes that students must adjust to a new country or city.
C.2 Students must adapt to a new educational system.
C.3 Students must cope with the nuances of the schools’ culture.

    2.   This Prim is close related to the Socio – Emotional Development, the main idea is children’s development, in order to allow them to interact with other children and adults, playing or interacting in  a conversation,  and express their emotions (angry, happy, sad).

January 21st... climbing a skycraper :(

Hi...

Today wasn't bad at all;  in the morning classes were funny, we split into two groups; of course I'm in the "advanced one" LOL... classes with Erin are fantastic, day after day I can understand more and more easily.

After classes, we went to Willis Tower, which is a building located in the heart of downtown. It's said it is one of the tallest buildings in the world and, of course, the tallest building in America. You can go up to the 103 floor and have wonderful views of the city. (It's enough... I didn't like it)

Here some pictures
